Quick Overview

Looking for a vacation destination in Asia that is well known for its sunny weather, tropical beaches and clear blue water? The city of Phuket in Thailand is the answer. But if you want a truly memorable stay, you’ll love this place. Here’s my hotel review on Angsana Laguna Phuket.

First a little context. This was my first trip to Asia and I had already experienced several different accommodations prior to arriving in Phuket. My trip began with the first week in Central Thailand visiting Bangkok, Ayutthaya, and a number of interesting places nearby with a blogger friend. The second week, we flew south to Phuket for the 2022 TBEX Asia conference.

Would I stay again here again?

Absolutely!! The Angsana Laguna Phuket is unique because it is built on a lagoon, and guests are surrounded by natural beauty in every direction. From the abundance of tropical flowers to towering palm trees, you truly feel like you are in paradise.  There is even a floating restaurant in the middle of the lagoon accessible by a water taxi.

I love the airy tropical design of the hotel itself, and the views through the floor to ceiling windows looking out on the water in the hotel lobby. I was also impressed with the lovely custom of greeting new guests with a refreshing glass of cold juice served on a rattan tray with orchids.

And stepping outside, I could see why people love to vacation here. This five-star resort had a private white sand beach, a luxury spa and gallery, and endless walking trails between each of the three-story buildings.

Accommodations

Angsana room

Angsana offers 380 options from rooms to suites in various sizes large enough to accommodate up to 6 people. Guests can choose views of the beach, the pool or the lagoon. We had a second floor room (212) with two queen beds. The elephant towel art with purple orchids was a nice touch and the flower boxes on our private balcony with stunning views of the lagoon were such a treat!

The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the high quality linens and towels in the bathroom. And sleep was peaceful with no noise from neighbors. One floor down on the main level, there was a small shop with beach wear and souvenirs (nice bracelets for family/friends’ gifts) and surprisingly the restaurant that served breakfast was just beyond the shop.

The cream colored complex is shaped like a U along the lagoon and the buildings are each only four stories high. There are covered walkways connecting all the buildings so if you experience a rainy day, you never need to get wet trying to get to the lobby.

“Angsana Laguna Phuket features a range of dining options for every occasion and every palate. Be it a casual meal, a beachfront experience or delicious Asian cuisine, we have it all.”

Food & Drink

I really enjoyed the food and beverages served at the Angsana. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Not a single dish was over- or undercooked and the service was perfect. The staff lived up to the country’s motto – the “Land of Smiles.” I was greeted by everyone I met. The first night we arrived, we had drinks and dinner by the beach. What a treat!

With 5 restaurants inside, poolside and beachside, you could enjoy eating all day long. As a breakfast lover, the most outstanding experience was the fabulous breakfast. Angsana offered the largest and most varied spread of food I have ever seen served for a morning meal.

They offered typical American fare like eggs, bacon, pancakes, cereal, muffins, breads and delicious fresh fruit, but they also offered curries, noodle dishes and other Asian and European selections. Seriously a treat and something for everyone! I enjoyed trying a few new dishes and I’m normally a picky eater. My parents would be proud.

The lunch food was also wonderful – nicely seasoned and light which we appreciated in a hot, tropical climate. The hotel outdid itself with the fabulous presentation of fresh fruit at our coffee breaks. They even served the famous fruit called Durian as an ice cream bar.

Memorable Women’s Travel Top Tips

  • This is a large resort and we were taken by golf cart to our room when we arrived. If you or anyone else in your party has trouble walking, make sure you mention it when you make your reservation.
  • If you are an afternoon coffee drinker, we found a small coffee bar near the front lobby.

Memorable Women’s Travel Favorite Highlights

  • I really loved the large colorful sculpture spelling out “Sawadee” which means “hello” in Thai on the grounds near the children’s playground. It was such a nice welcoming cultural reminder.
  • I saw a family happily boarding the water taxi so they could enjoy a meal on the small island in the lagoon. Advance reservations were required and I was always tied up with the conference events. Maybe next time!
  • We only spent about an hour at the beach on our last day. The water was warm and clear and the soft sand made a morning stroll along the water’s edge a nice experience at the end.

  • Tropical Cocktail Workshop – I just loved my afternoon visit to the Chalong Bay Rum Distillery where we got to tour the factory, learn all about the process of making rum from sugarcane, sample 12 different Chalong Bay rum flavors and make and consume 3 different drinks as a class.

  • Snorkeling and Swimming Experience – One of the tours I took was through Nikorn Marine in a high speed catamaran. We took a 40-minute ride out on a large luxury catamaran and enjoyed the view of lots of smaller tropical islands. When we reached Racha Island, they anchored in the water and inflated a big slide which our group had a lot of fun going down. They provided snorkeling equipment and fins and we spent about an hour paddling around looking at the fish and coral. Afterwards, they served us drinks and a wonderful spread of food.

Final Thoughts

Of all the places I stayed in Thailand, the Angsana Laguna Phuket was by far the best. They truly went out of their way to make sure every guest was treated with respect and in a friendly manner. The rooms were clean and the entire property was well tended – even the abundance of nature all around the property. The food was delicious and the wide range of opportunities to relax and have fun were always available. So to close out my hotel review for the Angsana Laguna Phuket – I highly recommend it because it truly is a 5-star resort you will enjoy.
