Shhh… don’t look now. February begins tomorrow. I want to end this month with a quick look back at last year. I wish I could share all the details of wonderful trips that I had taken, but with COVID, all my plans evaporated. Canceling the trip to Australia in May was the hardest. As a birthday present to myself, I had scheduled this adventure to see a new continent together with my youngest son. Oh well. Some day. (I’m an optimist. It will happen.) Instead, based on reader visits, this post will be A Year in Review: My 5 Most Popular Posts of 2020. (The trips were taken in 2019). Please take a look at any you may have missed, and let me know in the comments which one is your favorite.

Exercises for women over 50l seated woman stretching

Do you remember being able to sit cross-legged easily? I’m sure I could do it up until my late thirties. After that, all bets are off. That move takes flexibility and strength which is very important when we travel. If you want to be sure you’re able to move easily for your next “some day” trip (but need a little motivation), I did the research for you.  Join in the fun with these age-appropriate exercises led by women who look like us on YouTube. Most of them are around 10 minutes, so you can start in small bursts. As the Nike ad says, “Just Do It.”

Scarves and hairclips at Japanesque in Bethany Beach DE

In a quiet little town along the shore in Delaware, my college roommate and I found plenty to do. The town’s nickname is “Low and Slow.” From good food to quaint shops and a stretch of soft sand beneath our feet, it was the self-care beach getaway every woman needs.

Rhode Island is both the smallest state and a short drive from more populous states like Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts (all visible from different points along its borders). In this post, I’ll tell you why I think it is the best weekend getaway on the East Coast.

Grand foyer of The Breakers mansion in Newport RI

Did you ever read the Great Gatsby? Or watch Downton Abbey? Newport, Rhode Island has a connection to both of them. If you enjoy wandering through historic mansions, you will love the Golden Age opulence of these estates owned by the Vanderbilt’s and other wealthy families at the turn of the century. I’ve included some of the insider tips I found out to make your trip more enjoyable.

painted churches of Schulenburg TX

From the outside, this quiet little church hides its inner treasure well. Inside, it’s stunning beauty and old world craftsmanship will make you think you’ve somehow stepped through a time portal to Europe. This church is the “Queen” of the collection of historic Painted Churches in the small towns of Texas. You don’t need to be religious to enter to appreciate them (but you do need to be respectful and turn off your flash).

I hope you found this recap of my 5 Most Popular Posts from 2020 enjoyable. From the Golden Age mansions in Newport, Rhode Island to the Painted Churches of Schulenburg, Texas, there are a wide range of amazing destinations just waiting for us to visit again some day. You’ll need stamina and strength when that day arrives, so make sure you include exercise as part of your life now. And if a road trip to a quiet beach helps you cope with the stress of COVID, I understand. I’ll be with you in spirit.
